A black bear which has been seen in several areas over the past week paid a visit to Rochelle early this morning.
At around 5am, local police 1st saw the bear near 7th Avenue and 2nd Street. He was running in some back yards apparently looking for some food.
WRHL News came in contact with the bear as he ran out in front of our vehicle while traveling on Illinois 251 near 10th Avenue.
Police directed the bear to the west side of town toward 20th street. It ended up near the bike path by Lincoln School as the bear ran towards Queens Road. The goal for local police was to get the bear out of town.
The bear did snack on a bird feeder while in the Hub City.
The animal was seen yesterday morning near I-88 and Mulford road between Rochelle and Creston. It may have stopped in some timber on a farm.
The bear was also seen at 2 locations in DeKalb County early yesterday morning.
There have been no reports of the black bear having any contact with individuals at this time.
