"The Great March for Climate Action" made a stop in Rochelle this week as between 30 to 35 people between to age group of 2 to 77 years old have a message to send.
The walk began in Los Angeles last March and plans to come to an end with a rally November 1st in Washington D.C.. 1 of the organizers of the trip is Jeffrey Czerwic of Des Moines, Iowa. He said that the group wants people to be aware of the climate crisis and changes need to be made in the future.
The group has solar panels along with a wind turbine unit for power. They camped out at the Rochelle Municipal Airport for 2 days. They walk around 15 miles per day with rest days on the trip.
Czerwic said that farmers and cattle ranchers are concerned about climate changes when it comes to the weather. This includes water issue.
He said that 1 of their goals is to have people talk more about climate changes. He said that global warming pollution needs to decrease by 8 percent each year. He also stressed that fossil fuels need to remain in the ground.
The walk involves people from numerous states around the country. They plan to be in DeKalb tomorrow with other stops this week in Elburn, Wheaton, and Maywood. Their rally is scheduled this Saturday at Daley Plaza in Chicago.
The March also made stops in Sterling and Franklin Grove last Friday and Saturday.
