Residents in Rochelle may see police squad cars near railroad crossings this week.
To promote rail safety awareness and education, local officers will be participating in Illinois Rail Safety week.
Enforcement details are scheduled this week at various railroad grade crossings in Rochelle. The officers will cite both drivers and pedestrains who disobey the law associated with railroad grade crossings and property.
They will also give out literature to the public in how to be safe around trains and the crossings.
Local residents are reminded that you can not stop your vehicle on the railroad tracks or any where within the highway-rail grade crossing. It's also against the law to go around the gates when they are down.
Officials say that more than 50 percent of all collisions take place at railroad crossing with active warning devices.
