Rochelle man back in court following fatal crash in 2013 (Updated)

The status hearing was continued again on Friday for a Rochelle man in connection with the felony offense of aggravated reckless driving. The case involves a car vs motorcycle crash in June of 2013 in Rochelle that claimed the life of a local man.

21-year old Caleb Holder of Rochelle died from blunt trauma to his head as he was struck from behind while riding his motorcycle by a car driven by 42-year old Erik Steffins.

Steffins was also charged with DUI. Authorities say that cannabis was found in his system.

Reports indicate that Holder was riding his motorcycle southbound on Illinois 251 in Rochelle, just before Lakeview Drive, prior to the collision on June 19th of 2013.

Ogle County State's Attorney Mike Rock said that Steffins plans to plead guilty to the felony offense of aggravated reckless driving. The problem remains the final figure for restitution in the case.

Steffins is scheduled to return to court on January 30th of next year for another status hearing.

He is out of jail following the posting of 10 percent or $5,000 of the $50,000 bond.
