Rochelle residents will have 1 less restaurant to eat at as Beacon on the Green has closed it's doors.
Vivian Management will terminate their lease with Gredco on Wednesday. " The Fairways" golf course, which is also being managed by Gredco, will remain open for the upcoming season.
The Beacon on the Green has only been open for 2 years. There had been reports of lack of customers in the day to day operations of the restaurant. The business did cater to a number of events and parties while open on the south side of Rochelle.
Any organization or groups that held meetings at the restaurant will have to find a new location at the present time. Vivian Management has started to move property out of the building.
All golf outings at "The Fairways" golf course scheduled for this year will take place.
Gredco is currently looking for a business or group to run the day to day operations of a restaurant or a catering business in the future.
2 years ago, the City of Rochelle and the Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District purchased the golf course property along with the restaurant building for $800,000. The intergovernmental agreement was for 5 years.
Gredco has a lease agreement for the golf course and restaurant for 3 years with 2 possible 1 year extensions with the city and park district.
City and Park officials have met recently behind closed doors to talk about the future of the golf course.
