A new survey done for the state of Illinois warns of a possible shortage of registered nurses over the next five years. The survey filled out by about 53-thousand registered nurses in Illinois, shows that about a third of nurses 55 and older plan to retire within the next five years. If that pans out, the state's Department of Financial and Professional Regulation says it would mean shortages of qualified nurses, especially in the psychiatric, school and other specialty areas.
