Rochelle City Council meet tonight

An agreement with the Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District dealing with the sale of the restaurant at Fairways Golf Course along with rezoning for Box Office Distillery tops the agenda tonight for city officials in Rochelle. The council meeting begins at 7 at City Hall.

Some changes have been made in the intergovernmental agreement between the city and park district as John Scanlan wants to purchase the restaurant at the golf course. He plans to make over $700,000 worth of improvements inside the building.

Park officials will meet at noon on Monday to vote on the agreement.

Box Office Distillery plans to purchase the Hub Theater along with the former Lincoln School on South Main Street. The operations of the business will take place at the theater while the school will be used for storage of the alcohol.

The city has also reached an agreement with the Illinois EPA dealing with the radium problem in water well 11 near the high school. RMU has 2 options.

The first option is to plan and design a radium removal plant at the well and take water samples over the next year. If the radium level is below the state requirements, there would be no reasons to build a treatment plant.

The facility would cost the city between 2 to 3 million dollars if built. It would not be operational until February of 2018.

Tonight's Rochelle City Council meeting is open to the public.
