Charges filed against an Oregon man in boating accident

Charges have been filed against an Oregon man following the death of a Rockford woman last Friday in a boating accident on the Rock River in Ogle County.

32-year old Megan Wells suffered fatal injuries from the incident. She died from blunt trauma to her chest according to the Winnebago County Coroner's office.

46-year old Marc Mongan has been arrested on the charge of operating a watercraft while under the influence of alcohol and reckless operation of a watercraft.

Mongan was in a fishing boat when it crashed into a pontoon boat. Wells along with 3 other people were on the pontoon boat when the accident took place.

They were treated along with Mongan and 29-year old Nicholas Lamb of Oregon for injuries at a Rockford Hospital.

Ogle County State's Attorney Eric Morrow said that the incident remains under investigation and additional charges may be filed in the future against Mongan.
