Park officials in Rochelle have named board President Roger Bunger as their interim Executive Director until the end of the year. He replaces Eric Christensen who resigned last August after 4 years with the park district.
With the appointment, Bunger has resigned as board president and as a commissioner of the Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District. He had been on the board for 9 1/2 years as his position is up for re-election in April.
Bunger, who will be paid $7,000 per month without benefits, said he has been doing the director's duties for the past 5 weeks and said it was a full-time job. He told the board that they needed a director to run the programs and facilities.
He has not decided at ths time if her will apply for the director's position full-time. He plans to wait and see what happens over the next 3 months.
The board also named Bud Norcross as acting President for the present time.
For the second straight meeting, park officials took no action on the Spring Lake filter room bid involving the swimming pool. The low bid came in at $168,767. Superintendent of Park Facilities Don Elliott said that they plan to heat the below grade tanks that are leaking at the pool. This will prevent the components from freezing and breaking during the winter.
The Spring Lake swimming pool is scheduled to be open in 2017.
Elizabeth Sosa has resigned as Superintendent of Recreation. She had been with the park district for nearly 10 years. Sosa's last day is October 10th.
