A Rochelle man was arrested on drug charges yesterday by The State Line Area Narcotics Team (known as SLANT). 22 year old Cruz Villarreal was arrested for Unlawful Possession with the Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession with the Intent to Deliver Cannabis and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Villarreal was charged with two counts of possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance (hydrocodone, alprazolam) within 1000 feet of a church, both class 2 felonies, one count of possession with intent to deliver cannabis, a class 3 felony and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, a class A misdemeanor.
The arrest of Villarreal comes after SLANT agents along with members of the Rochelle Police Department and Ogle County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant of Villarreal’s Rochelle residence. Seized as a result of the search warrant were 185 pills of alprazolam and 9 pills of hydrocodone and 82 grams of suspected cannabis and cannabis related products.
Class 2 felonies are punishable by 3 to 7 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Class 3 felonies are punishable by 2 to 5 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Class A misdemeanors are punishable by up to 1 year in a County Jail.
