A man is dead and a woman hospitalized after a stabbing during a domestic dispute in Byron Thursday afternoon. The Ogle County Sheriff's Office reports that the victim, 45 year old Jodi Gorman was taken to a Rockford hospital by Byron Fire and remains in serious condition. The offender, 48 year old Michael Gorman fled the scene prior to deputies arriving. He was later involved in a single vehicle accident in Stephenson County. He was transported to a Freeport hospital and then flown to a Rockford hospital where he was pronounced dead. The preliminary report from the autopsy, completed by the Winnebago County Coroner's Office indicates that Gorman died from blunt force trauma as a result of the crash. The incident took place at 5:15 Thursday afternoon at 8434 Winnebago Lane in rural Byron. Ogle County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Byron Police Department, Byron Fire, Stephenson County Sheriff's Office and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit.
