Residents in Rochelle can expect to see repairs being made on the 1st Avenue bridge starting next week. The council approved the work last night at a cost of $28,700.
Rochelle City Engineer Sam Tesreau said that the 1st Avenue bridge is 1 of 4 bridges that needs to be replaced in the next 4 to 5 years. Overweight trcuks will no longer be able to use this route in Rochelle.
The bridge work will be completed by May 8th. Tesreau said that overweight trucks will have several routes they can use in the Hub City. They include Route 38, Steward Road, and Main Street.
City officials approved 3 purchase requests from RMU. The highest price tag came from a new bucket truck at a cost of $230,647. This will replace a 2005 truck which continues to have mechanical problems. It may be used as a back-up vehicle or sold during an auction.
The new bucket truck will be delivered in 2018.
35 steel poles will be purchased for Phase II of the transmission line project along Steward Road between the ethanol plant and Hayes Road at a cost of just over $218,000. Electric Superintendent Jason Bird said they received 7 bids for the steel poles. He said that this is the final 2 1/2 miles of work on Steward Road.
The pole project will begin in September and should be completed by the first week in December.
Communication equiment will also be purchased for the substations at a cost of $183,246.
Applications are still being accepted for the interim City Manager position. The city has 11 days to hire an individual.
Absent from last night's meeting were Mayor Chet Olson and Councilman Tom McDermott.
