Rochelle man pleads not guilty in burglary case

A Rochelle man pled not guilty in Ogle County court yesterday following a car burglary in the Woodlawn Acres Subdivision last March.

22-year old Juan Gutierrez has been charged with the Class 2 felony offense of burglary along with 2 counts of the misdemeanor charge of resisting a peace officer.

A co-defendant in the case is 37-year old Elva Cruz of Rochelle who was arrested on the charge of resisting a police officer.

Ogle County Sheriff's Police received word of a car burglary in progress in rural Rochelle. When the deputy arrived on the scene, Gutierrez and Cruz fled on foot.

They were apprehended a short time later in a field north of the Woodlawn Acres Subdivision.

In court yesterday, Gutierrez waived his preliminary hearing and demanded a jury trial. He returns to court next Monday in Oregon for a jury status hearing.

Gutierrez remains in jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
