No one suffered any injuries yesterday afternoon following an electrical fire in the basement of a 2-story home in Rochelle.
The flames and smoke were noticed a short time before 5 at 303 8th Avenue near 3rd Steet.
Rochelle Fire Chief Dave Sawlsville said that the blaze was contained in basement of the home. There was some smoke damage inside the residence.
The fire started from an electrical problem with the service panel on the wall. Sparks then started some cardboard boxes on the floor on fire.
4 residents were home when the blaze started. They told Chief Sawlsville that they had electrical issues inside the home the entire day.
Cost damage is estimated to be around $6,000. Fire crews were on the scene for about a half hour.
The Rochelle Fire Department also responded to smoke inside an apartment at Lincoln Manor last night. The problem was caused by burnt food. No one suffered any injuries from the incident.
