The top city official in Rochelle is disappointed that retail growth has been slow for the first half of 2017.
During this week's program "Let The People Know", Mayor Chet Olson said the economy remains a factor for city's like Rochelle when it comes to new businesses.
He said major chains are hesistant to open a new store right now. Mayor Olson did say that several businesses have moved to new locations in the city, but there still remains empty buildings in the community.
He also plans to get an update report next week on the branding project for the downtown area. He said the council needs to look at what they afford for the project.
Mayor Olson stressed that they need community support for this to work in the downtown area.
