Governor Rauner defends not sending National Guard to Lake County flooding

Governor Bruce Rauner is defending the decision not to send the National Guard to help with flooding in Lake County.

He told reporters on Friday that the local agencies are very prepared to handle flooding situations and hadn't asked the state for help. The governor also defended not commenting on the flooding until yesterday, claiming he didn't want to do any political grandstanding.

Rauner isn't planning on declaring a state of emergency just yet. He said his team is still looking at what's going on.

3 Northern Illinois counties have been placed on the list so far.
