Ogle County officials announced this week that they may file a lawsuit against the City of Oregon if an agreement can not be reached dealing with the closure of a street for the new jail.
The county needs South 6th Street between Washington and Jefferson Streets to be closed for a sally port that would connect the jail to the Judicial Center in Oregon. The city council has not approved the proposal.
During this week's program "Let The People Know", Ogle County State's Attorney Eric Morrow talked about several options before a lawsuit would be filed.
Morrow said that the current condition of the jail has resulted in lawsuits against the county due to injuries by prisoners. He said that any delay of the project would be a bad thing.
If the process ends up in court, construction could be delayed 5 to 6 months.
The new jail is expected to cost between 25 to 28 million dollars with 180 to 200 prisoners.
"Let The People Know" is heard on Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 on Good Times Oldies 1060 and rebroadcast Saturday morning at 6:30 on WRHL and Sunday morning at 6:30 on "The Coyote".
