Inmates at the jail in Rockford are about to get a new way to make calls and have something to do while behind bars. The Winnebago County Board last night approved a contract with an outside company to provide hundreds of tablets to the jail. The county will see almost a million dollars a year in revenue from the tablets, which will replace the old landline telephones in the jail and allow inmates to rent books and pre-approved movies. Jailers say they hope the tablets will also lead to fewer fights.
