Rochelle park officials talk about the future of the Spring Lake swimming pool

(Roger Bunger)

The future of the Spring Lake swimming pool topped the discussion tonight for park officials in Rochelle.

The park district has been informed by the Illinois Department of Public Health that a permit will most likely not be issued for the facility unless upgrades are made. Park District Executive Director Roger Bunger said that the filtration area for the pool needs to be upgraded.

He said that the system has leaked for several years as the used a sump pump to keep the water out of the area.

Bunger expects the project to cost around $200,000. The board made no final decisions on the work that needs to be done until they have more finalized numbers.

Park officials are also looking at upgrading the deck at the Spring Lake swimming pool in the future along with additional parking.

The new fiscal year appropriation and budget was approved. Bunger said that the appropriation totals 3.4 million dollars.

He said they have a balanced budget for the next fiscal years as they have reduced costs in several areas.

The board is looking at a revitalization program for Skare Park due to the trees that remain on the ground from the 2015 tornado. Work is expected to be done in the southwest corner of the park along with the north side and west of Skare Court.
