Investigators in Dixon are looking for answers after a murder-suicide claimed the life of a five-year-old boy. Police say they found Christopher Michaels' body at his home in the 1000 block of Fargo Avenue in Dixon yesterday afternoon. He had been shot in the head. Officers also found Christopher's father, Robert Michaels. They say he shot himself in the head but was still breathing. Roberts was taken to a local hospital and then later flown to a Rockford hospital, where he died.
Christopher’s mother was downstairs in the home at the time of the shooting. She heard two gunshots, yelled for them and received no response, and then called the police.
Investigators say they had been looking into allegations of child sex abuse against Robert Michaels since September 12th. The victim was not his son. Officials say a plan was in place by the Department of Children and Family Services to keep Michaels away from his son.
