A Rockford man wanted in the shooting of a Winnebago County Sheriff's deputy was arrested on Saturday in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia.
27-year old Jordan Spates was taken into custody after Sheriff's police learned Friday that he may be in Georgia. They then worked with FBI agents in that state.
Spates is accused of shooting deputy Stephen Wright during a traffic stop. The officer suffered wounds to his shoulder and back. He has been released from an area hospital.
Spates has been charged with the Class "X" felony of aggravated battery to a police officer with a firearm. He remains in a Lawrenceville, Georgia jail pending extradition.
Sheriff's police say that additional arrests are expected for the individuals who helped Spates elude police.
