An Oregon man will have a jury trial following the death of a Rockford woman in an Ogle County boating accident that took place on the Rock River in June of 2016.
47-year old Marc Mongan has been charged with 3 counts of reckless homicide and reckless conduct along with 1 count of driving while under the influence of alcohol. All are felony charges.
Mongan had originally been arrested on misdemeanor charges. They included reckless operation of a motor craft and careless boat operation.
Killed in the crash was 31-year old Megan Wells of Rockford. Mongon's boat struck a pontoon boat which Wells was on as she was thrown into the Rock River following impact.
Last December, an Ogle County grand jury found there was no probable cause to proceed with felony charges against the Oregon man. A special prosecutor was appointed in the case last month.
In court yesterday, Mongon waived his preliminary hearing and demanded a jury trial. He returns to court for a status hearing on November 8th. A jury trial date may be set at that time.
