Rochelle police arrested at St. Charles man this morning following a high speed chase that ended just east of Creston.
Local police received word a short time before 2:45 of a driving complaint at the intersection of Route 38 and Dement Road. A car driven by 28-year old Zachery Soto of St. Charles nearly collided with a semi truck.
When police attempted to stop the Soto vehicle eastbound on Route 38, the chase began. Speeds reached as high as 139 miles per hour in the 55 mile per hour zone on Route 38. At 1 time, Soto's car left the highway into a ditch before he got back onto the pavement.
Soto finally stopped his car near the Ogle-DeKalb County line on Route 38. He was arrested on the charge of reckless driving, 2 counts of DUI, along with unlawful possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia. Less than 10 grams of marijuana was seized by the Rochelle K-9 unit.
The St. Charles man was also charged with speeding, improper lane usage, and violation of restrictions.
Soto posted bond on the charges and will appear in court at a later date.
