Fatal fire remains under investigation in Leaf River

The investigation continues in a 2-story house fire in Leaf River early yesterday morning which left a teen dead.

19-year old Gregory Wood suffered fatal injuries as his body was found in a second-floor bedroom. He was a fireman with the Leaf River Department.

The blaze was noticed a short time after 12:30 yesterday morning at 209 West 2nd Street in Leaf River.

When emergency personnel arrived on the scene, the first floor to the home was fully engulfed in flames.

3 residents at the home, , Woods father mother, and brother, were able to escape from the fire. 2 were transported by ambulance to Rockford hospitals with serious injuries.

Wood's father is a deputy chief with the Leaf River Fire Department while his mother is an emergency medical technician and brother a cadet.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined by Ogle County Sheriff's Police along with assistance from the State Fire Marshall's office and the Illinois State Police crime scene personnel.
