The long wait is over for Illinois deer hunters. The first weekend of shotgun deer hunting season began this morning.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is reminding hunters to be safe, bring their tags and hunting licenses, and check which counties require chronic wasting disease testing. Hunters will take back to the field for the second firearm season the last weekend of November.
Tourism officials across western Illinois say deer season is worth millions of dollars a year for the region.
