Father and son killed in Lee County field explosion

A father and son were killed this week following a natural gas pipeline explosion in a Lee County farm field.

Pronounced dead at the scene were 59-year old Rory Miller of Amboy and his 30-year old son Ryan who lives in Oregon.

2 other area men were injured in the explosion on Tuesday morning. 20-year old Michael Koster of Sterling remains in critical condition at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. 20-year old Kyler Acklund of West Brooklyn was treated and released from the Rockford hospital.

The explosion occurred when workers were installing field tile in the 1600 block of Nachusa Road near Route 38 between Franklin Grove and Dixon. 1 of the tractors struck the natural gas pipeline in the field.

The incident remains under investigation by the Lee County Sheriff's Department, Illinois State Police, along with the State Fire Marshall's office and the National Transportation Safety Board.
