The approval of the tax levy for the district along with window work next summer for 2 schools topped the agenda last night for the Rochelle elementary board.
Following a public hearing, school officials approved the tax levy which saw an increase of 5.2 percent.
Superintendent Todd Prusator said that the tax rate will drop for residents in the district by around a nickel.
Health life safety work is scheduled for the next 2 summers in replacing windows at 4 schools. The project is expected to cost around 2 million dollars.
Prusator said that the district will use bonds to help pay for the project. The windows will be replaced in Central and May schools in 2018 and then Tilton and the Middle school in 2019.
The board approved the retirement last night of 6th grade teacher Patti Richolson at the end of the current school year.
School officials talked about the 2018-19 financial status for the district. They expect deficits in the education fund.
Prusator's recommendation was despite the deficits, there should be no major reductions in staffing for the 2018-19 school year.
Any significant reduction in staff would have an impact on class size.
