A solar farm presentation, an electric easement agreement with RMU, and a schedule for chip and seal work on the streets topped the discussion last night by village officials in Hillcrest.
The board heard a presentation from Evan Carlson of Innovative Power Systems of Minnesota involving solar farms in the area. He is on a site selection project right now as the solar farm would be between 16 to 20 acres. The smallest would be 8 acres.
Carlson said he would most likely lease the land as he is working in the Commonwealth Edison service area.
Village officials approved the electric easement agreement with RMU which will go for 10 years. The original proposal from the city was for 50 years.
No action was taken on the Leaf River Communication lease agreement involving the water tower. The village is looking at a rental fee per month. They receive no money at the present time.
Hillcrest plans to work with Ogle County for the chip and seal work on the streets in 2018. They have also put together a 5-year schedule.
The work next year will be on River Road from Scott Avenue to Ramona Avenue, Ramona Avenue between River Road and Errett Road, and Hillcrest Avenue from River Road to Powers Road. Motor fuel tax money will be used to upgrade the streets.
The village will continue their plan with Query Insurance. Premiums were just under $250 lower than this year due to a worker's compensation reduction.
The village is also looking at prohibiting the burning of grass clippings and leaves next year. A final decision will be made during the January board meeting.
The tax levy was approved last night with an increase of $1,850. Following an executive session, it was announced that the Hillcrest Village Hall will be open Monday through Friday from 8 until 5.
