Lighter starts a fire in a Rochelle apartment

Careless use of a lighter was the cause of an apartment fire in Rochelle on Tuesday. There were no reports of any injuries.

The blaze was noticed a short time before 6:30 on the first floor of the 2-story structure at 614 Lincoln Highway.

Rochelle Fire Chief Dave Sawlsville said that the flames were in the bedroom of the apartment. The fire was contained in the room.

There was smoke and water damage inside the building.

Chief Sawlsville said that a couple and 2 children live in the apartment. Damage was estimated to be several thousand dollars.

The other people living in the apartment complex were able to return to their residence following the fire.
