Village officials in Hillcrest got an update report last night on water well #2 which is down for the present time which appears to have caused the high levels of nitrate in the system.
There is currently a lack of flow in the water which has caused the nitrate problem in well #1.
Residents in Hillcrest should not give the water to babies under 6 months old or use it to make infant formula.
Board president Steve Dodson said they plan to put a camera down well #2 this week to check on the condition of the casing. The village hopes it can be working some time next week to correct the nitrate problem.
The board took no action last night on the 20-year lease agreement with the Rochelle Police Department involving an antenna on the water tower. Village officials wanted to look over the proposal and will talk about the agreement during their March meeting. There will be no fee in the agreement.
The police department needs the antenna for officers to communication on their radios when they are at Lincoln School and Rochelle Township High School.
The village is also looking at upgrading several culverts in the near future. No action was taken on the project last night.
The village also received a good audit report on their financial status for fiscal year 2017.
