RTHS students schedule events this week following school shooting in Florida

Students at Rochelle Township High School have scheduled events for each day this week as part of their support for the students and staff at a school in Florida.

A national walking out of the classroom by students is schedule for Wednesday around the country following the shooting that took place at the high school that left 17 people dead last month.

Yesterday at RTHS, students posted positive messages on lockers in the building. During their lunch period, students wrote thank you notes to their teachers, servicemen, or other individuals important in their lives.

Today, bracelets will be handed out to students when they arrive at RTHS. They will also write something or someone that inspires them on a slip of white or red paper. The slips will be delivered later in the day.

On Wednesday, students are being asked to wear red in honor of the school in Florida where the shooting took place last month. This is their school color.

Students are also asked to speak to, smile, or approach 17 people at school they don't usually associate with in honor of the 17 students and teachers killed in the shooting.

RTHS Students will be putting handprints and a message on a banner on Thursday to let Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida know they inspired the students at RTHS. Students are also encouraged to post positive messages on social media.

Friday will be known as One Hub, One Family with random acts of kindness. Hub gear will be worn by students as they will be asked to have random acts of kindness to others.

All of the activities scheduled this week were done by students at RTHS.
