Elgin man hurt in motorcycle vs car crash

An Elgin man is in critical condition at a Rockford hospital following a motorcycle vs car crash in DeKalb County on Thursday that involved a Hillcrest resident.

Police say that 49-year old Kenneth Ericson of Elgin was riding his motorcycle eastbound on Baseline Road and was approaching Glidden Road. He failed to yield at the intersection and struck a northbound car driven by 51-year old Mark Sparacino of Hillcrest.

Ericson, an Elgin police officer,  was ejected from the motorcycle following the collision. He was flown from the scene to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford and listed in critical condtion.

Sparacino was not hurt in the accident.

Sheriff's police say that Ericson was later arrested on the charge of DUI and failure to yield at a stop intersection.

The accident remains under investigation by DeKalb County Sheriff's Police.
