Dixon Police continue to investigate a shooting that took place at the high school this morning which resulted in the arrest of a 19-year old man.
Dixon Police Chief Steve Howell said that the former student fired several shots near the west gym while graduation practice was taking place at around 8am.
The school's resource police officer confronted the shooter who then ran out of the building.
During the chase, the teen fired several shots at the officer who then returned fire, hitting the teen.
Reports indicate that Matt Milby was arrested near the high school. He then received medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
The officer involved in the shooting was Mark Davis. He has been a police officer for 24 years, 15 years in Dixon. He has been placed on paid administrative leave at this time.
There were no other injuries to students or staff at the high school. The motive behind the shooting has not been released by police at this time.
Dixon High School will not hold classes on Thursday. Pre-K through 8th grade will have their normal schedule.
The Illinois State Police are conducting an independent investigation in the shooting today.
