A 19-year old Dixon student has been charged with 3 felonies following a shooting at the High School yesterday morning.
Matt Milby has been arrested on 3 counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm. Bond was set at 2 million dollars.
The shooting took place at around 8am in Dixon High School. Police Chief Steve Howell said that Milby fired several shots near the west gym while graduation practice was taking place. Milby was scheduled to graduate with the senior class this weekend.
The school's resource police officer, Mark Dallas, confronted Milby who then ran out of the building.
During the chase, Milby apparently fired several shots at Dallas who then returned fire, hitting the teen.
Milby was arrested near the high school. He then received medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries at KSB Hospital in Dixon.
Dallas has been a police officer for 24 years, 15 years in Dixon. School and city officials say his actions yesterday most likely saved many lives at the school. He has been placed on paid administrative leave at this time.
There were no other injuries to students or staff at the high school. The motive behind the shooting has not been released by police at this time.
Dixon High School will not hold classes today. Pre-K through 8th grade will have their normal schedule.
Milby is under 24 hour surveillance at the hospital until he is transported to the Lee County jail.
