he Cubs held off the Giants 2-1 on Thursday in the resumption of Tuesday's game that was initially called a Chicago win. San Francisco protested the result and won. The game picked back up in the fifth inning with the Cubs up 2-0. Anthony Rizzo hit a two-run homer in the first inning to power the Cubs. Starter Tsuyoshi Wada threw five innings of shutout ball for the win. Hector Rondon added his 19th save. Joe Panik knocked in the only run for San Francisco. Starter Ryan Vogelsong took the loss.
Madison Bumgarner fanned 12 in seven innings to guide the Giants to a 5-3 win over the Cubs in the rubber match of their three-game series from Wrigley Field. Bumgarner improved to 14-and-9 with the win and Santiago Casilla closed it out for his 11th save. Buster Posey went a perfect 4-for-4 with a solo shot and Pablo Sandoval totaled a trio of hits and two RBI for San Francisco, which has won four of five. Travis Wood got tagged for four runs in six innings to fall to 7-and-11 for Chicago. Justin Ruggiano and Welington Castillo both went deep as the Cubs.
The Cubs play Baltimore today at Wrigley Field.
