Chicago White Sox ace Chris Sale is expected to miss three weeks
with a broken foot that could affect his availability for Opening
Day. Sale suffered an avulsion fracture on the lateral side of his
right foot in an accident at home on Friday, the White Sox
announced Saturday. The left-hander underwent X-rays Saturday
morning at Banner Estrella hospital near the team's spring training
facility in Glendale. His status for Opening Day will be clearer
once the swelling in his foot goes down and further tests are
performed, the White Sox said. Sale, 25, had a 2.17 ERA in 26
starts last season with a 12-4 record and 208 strikeouts in 174
innings. He ranked fifth in the majors with a 0.97 WHIP and
finished third in voting for the AL Cy Young Award.
