Leonys Martin collected three hits for Seattle, which got back over .500 at 38-and-37. Nathan Karns lasted five innings on the mound to get the win. St. Louis closed the gap in the fifth with a three-run homer from Aledmys Diaz but wouldn't get any closer. Mike Leake gave up all five runs in the loss.
Chris Carter's three-run home run in the first inning keyed the Brewers to a 6-5 win over the Nationals at Miller Park. Matt Garza tossed six frames of four-run ball to get the win, and Jeremy Jeffress got the save. The Brewers have won three straight games. Gio Gonzalez got chased after three innings for the Nats. Danny Espinosa plated two runs as the Nationals lost their seventh straight game.
