Kris Bryant, Jason Heyward and Ben Zobrist all homered as the Cubs dropped the Giants 5-1 at Wrigley Field. Eddie Butler tossed five innings of one-run ball to improve to 2-and-0. Mike Montgomery pitched the final four innings to earn his first save. The Cubs won the final three in the four-game set.
Brandon Belt doubled in the lone run in the first inning for San Francisco. Former Cub Jeff Samardzija surrendered three runs in seven frames as he fell to 1-and-6 with the loss.
The Cubs begin a road trip Friday night in L.A. against the Dodgers.
