The Cubs rallied for a 3-2 win over the Padres in the opener of a three-game set at Wrigley Field. Willson Contreras tied the game on a solo homer in the seventh before Javier Baez scored the go-ahead run on an error later in the frame. Hector Rondon earned the win and Wade Davis his 14th save. Chicago is 35-and-34.
Jose Pirela and Yangervis Solarte homered for San Diego. Kirby Yates took the loss.
