White Sox trade Quintana to the Cubs

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Jose Quintana is going from the Southside to the Northside.  The Sox have traded Quintana to the Cubs in exchange for four minor leaguers including their top-two prospects in outfielder Eloy Jimenez and pitcher Dylan Cease.  The Sox also get infielders Bryant Flete and Matt Rose in the deal.  Quintana is signed through 2018, with club options that give the Cubs contractual control through 2020.  The 28-year-old southpaw is 4-and-8 with a 4.49 ERA in 18 starts this season.  Quintana has gone 50-and-54 with a 3.51 ERA in 172 games over six seasons, all with the Southsiders.

Jimenez is batting .271 with eight home runs and 32 RBI in 42 games at Single-A Myrtle Beach this season.  The 20-year-old is ranked as the Cubs' top prospect.  Cease, a 21-year-old right-hander ranked number-two in the Cubs' system, is 1-and-2 with a 2.79 ERA in 13 starts with Single-A South Bend.

Today was the 15th trade between Chicago baseball teams. The first since 2006.
