Cubs begin 2nd half of the season with a win in Baltimore

Addison Russell hit the go-ahead homer in the ninth inning to help lift the Cubs past the Orioles 9-8 in Baltimore.  The Cubs led by eight runs after three innings but would squander the big advantage which set up Russell to be the hero.  Ben Zobrist, Jason Heyward, Willson Contreras, and Kyle Schwarber also went deep.  Chicago is 44-and-45.

Mark Trumbo capped off the O's comeback with a two-run homer to tie the game in the eighth.  Brad Brach gave up the deciding home run to take the loss.  Kevin Gausman surrendered eight runs over three frames in the no decision.

Game 2 in the series is tonight in Baltimore.
