Javier Baez broke the game open with a three-run homer in the eighth inning as the Cubs dropped the Diamondbacks 7-2 at Chase Field. Ian Happ followed Baez with a solo homer, while Kris Bryant added a solo blast in the ninth for the Cubs, who took two of three in the series. Jake Arrieta fired six innings of one-run, three-hit ball to up his record to 12-and-8. Paul Goldschmidt hit his 28th homer in the ninth for the D'backs, who have lost six of eight. Zack Godley gave up two runs in five-and-two-thirds frames as he fell to 5-and-5.
The Cubs and Reds begin a four-game set tonight at Wrigley Field. At 61-and-55, Chicago is a game ahead of the Cardinals for first place in the NL Central.
