Anthony Rizzo homered and plated five as the Cubs clobbered the Reds, 15-5, in the opener of a four-game set at Wrigley Field. Javier Baez and Kris Bryant added two-run blasts for Chicago, which has a game-and-a-half lead on St. Louis in the NL Central. Jose Quintana went five innings to improve to 3-and-2 with the Cubs. Scooter Gennett slugged a two-run homer for Cincinnati. Asher Wojciechowski allowed seven runs and 10 hits in less than four innings to fall to 3-and-2.
The Cubs continue their four-game series with the Reds tonight at Wrigley Field. Chicago is 62-and-55. Kyle Hendricks toes the rubber for the Cubs. The Reds send out Luis Castillo.
