Rookie safety Eddie Jackson became the first NFL player with two defensive touchdowns longer than 75 yards in a single game, as the Bears thumped the Panthers 17-3 in Chicago. Jackson recovered a fumble in the first quarter and returned it 75 yards for a score. He then intercepted a tipped Cam Newton pass in the second quarter and took it 76 yards to the house. The fifth-round pick out of Alabama is the first Bears player to score two defensive touchdowns since Fred Evans in 1948. The Bears were outgained in nearly all offensive categories, but improved to 3-and-4.
Newton tossed two picks for Carolina and took five sacks. The Panthers finished with 293 total yards and 20 first downs, but managed just a field goal as they fell to 4-and-3 overall and 3-and-1 on the road.
The Bears play at New Oreleans on Sunday. Pre-Game Show begins at 11:30 on Good Time Oldies 1060.
