Kishwaukee College Athletics welcomed their new Head Men’s Soccer coach, Brenton Joseph, to campus on November 1. Men’s Soccer will return to campus in Fall 2018. The College will also be adding Women’s Soccer, which will debut in Fall 2018.
Brenton Joseph attended Mercer County Community College in New Jersey. He then transferred and earned a B.S. in Computer Science from Alabama A&M University and continued his studies as a graduate student in Computer Science at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He played soccer for Mercer County Community College and Alabama A&M University as a central midfielder. While a graduate student at Huntsville, he was asked to be the Assistant Coach for the Men’s Soccer team.
From 1997 – 2007, Joseph was the Head Soccer Coach for both the men’s and women’s teams at Benedictine University in Lisle. From 2007 – 2014, he was the Head Soccer Coach for the men’s team at Augustana University. He and his family relocated to the Oswego/Naperville area where he was the Head Coach for the AJAX – FC Chicago Club boys team. He started his own Soccer Club, Elements – FC, based in Naperville earlier this year. Elements – FC is a club for boys and girls from grade school through high school age. Brenton Joseph holds the United States Soccer Federation ‘A’ License and the United Soccer Coaches Premier Diploma.
Joseph is excited to return to college coaching with the Kougars. “My experience is unique and I bring new insight to this level,” he explained. “All my experiences have helped me grow as a coach. I am not the same type of coach I was 10 years ago. My philosophy now is to recruit players who not only play well, but have good character. I want players who want to compete and are willing to learn and who also realize that playing soccer at the college level is an avenue to something bigger.”
With Kish not fielding a soccer team for nearly 3 years, Joseph is rebuilding the program from the ground up. He said, “We can’t forget our history but this is also a new chapter in Kish soccer. We need to forge our own path.” Joseph emphasizes possession as the key to strong play and encourages players to think and problem solve on the field. “Soccer should be actively enjoyed,” he said. “I am looking for players who want to work with me to build this team together.”
