Officials at Sterling High School have decided to accept the offer and join the Western Big 6 Conference for the 2019-20 school year.
Sterling joins Geneseo High School who also made the decision this week to join the league.
Geneseo had originally decided to join the new Interstate 8 Conference prior to their decision this week.
The Western Big 6 Conference currently has Rock Island, Moline, Quincy, Galesburg, United Township, and Rock Island Alleman as part of their league.
Sterling currently belongs in the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference. The only schools who will remain in the league at this time are DeKalb, Kaneland, and Yorkville.
Rochelle along with Morris, LaSalle-Peru, Sycamore, and Ottawa will join Plano and Sandwich as part of the Interstate 8 Conference for the 2019-20 school year.
