The Cubs jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead and held on to edge the Rockies 9-7 in Denver. Javy Baez homered and drove in three runs to lead the charge for Chicago. Jose Quintana pitched into the sixth inning and gave up four runs but earned the win. Brandon Morrow locked down his fourth save as the Cubs took two-of-three in the set and improved to 10-and-9 overall.
Charlie Blackmon and Nolan Arenado homered for Colorado and Trevor Story added a two-run triple in defeat. Arenado was ruled out at home to end the game after a replay review reversed the initial call of safe on a wild pitch in the ninth. German Marquez took the loss as the Rockies fell to 12-and-11.
Kris Bryant of the Cubs left in the game in the first inning after being hit by a pitch in the head with a 96 mph fastball from German Marquez. He walked off the field with assistance. Bryan passed the concussion tests, but had a cut under his eye.
The Cubs have the day off today. They open up a 2-game series in Cleveland on Tuesday.
