Graduating Illinois high school seniors scored a little better on the ACT college entrance exam this year, but the numbers still are troubling for a number of reasons. The Illinois class of 2014 scored 20-point-seven, up slightly and near the national average of 21. Still, only 19-percent of Illinois graduates were considered college-ready, according to ACT standards, and the scores of African-American and Latino students still trail white students' scores, though the gap is narrowing.
