The Rochelle Township High School board heard from the teacher's association last night when it comes to consolidation of the 2 districts in the Hub City.
Last week, the Rochelle elementary board scheduled a hearing for August 1st dealing with a waiver application to allow a consolidation referendum between both school districts.
The RTHS teacher association has not taken a position on the issue at this time. They do have a list of questions and concerns. They include salaries and health insurance benefits, the financial impact, along with the curriculum. The association stressed that they want to be involved in the discussions and planning process if the 2 school districts consolidate.
RTHS board president Tom Huddleston said they are still gathering information on the proposal. They plan to have several informational meetings as local resident can voice their opinions on the consolidation issue.
Huddleston also said this is a unique situation since 5 school districts feed into RTHS.
The board heard an update report from Donna Page involving the Agriculture and FAA program. The chapter for RTHS is ranked 14th in the state out of 330. They have 123 members.
Employment last night included Sorayda Maciel as special education teacher, Scott Swartz as English teacher, and Hannah Busching as a Spanish instructor.
Brian Peterson has resigned as a special education teacher. He had been with the district for 2 years.
The emergency plan was updated with the Rochelle Police Department and Ogle County Sheriff's Police. Sheriff Brian VanVickle said there was only a few changes in case there is a problem in the building.
