Carmichael elected new president for Flagg Rochelle Community Park District board

(Park Board President B.T. Carmichael)

The Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District board has a new president. B. T. Carmichael was elected to the position last night. He replaces Mic Brooks who has been president of the board since November of last year. Brooks will remain as a commissioner on the park board.

Carmichael, who has been a park commissioner for the past 5 years, said he would like to thanks Mic Brooks in his time as president of the board. He stressed that they need to move forward in upgrading the parks and the facilities in the future.

He also believes it will be an easy transition with no changes involving the commissioners.

Commissioner Tim Hayden was also mentoned as a candidate for president, but failed to get a second nomination.

MIchael Cruz was also elected as the secretary to the board with Hayden being his assistant.

The board approved the tentative form of the new fiscal year budget and appropriation. The final numbers will be decided next month.

Park officials are looking at cleaning up Skare Park following the 2015 tornado. There remains many trees on the ground in the southwest corner of the park along with near the trails and west of Skare Court.

The park district plans to apply for a grant from the Rochelle Area Community Foundation to help pay for the costs of the project.

The board also plans to form a capital project committee that will be chaired by Hayden along with Commissioner Dale Wells as part of the group. Park employees Don Elliott and Jackie Ohlinger have also been named the committee.
